PREVENT ASPIRATION.

OBJECTIVE

Avoid bronchoaspiration during oral feeding in the patient who may present
Dysphagia.

Material
- Paste foods.
- Thickeners.
- Gelatines.
- Material.

Equipment

- Equipment.

PROCESS

1. Perform handwashing.
2. Check the prescribed diet. If there are allergies or intolerances to any food,
Check their absence in the diet.
3. Check the items on the tray by comparing them with the diet card.
4. Inform the patient.
5. Ask the patient to wash their hands or help if necessary.
6. Place patient in Fowler position and head slightly
forward.
7. Cover the patient's chest with an umbrella-cover.
8. Ask the patient if they have difficulty swallowing.
9. Avoid drinking liquids.
10. Offer the patient semi-soft foods in small quantity.
11. Insist on patients with hemiplegia who chew on the non-affectionate side.
12. Evaluate the appearance of signs of difficulty such as: cough, dyspnea, drooling ...
13. Gently inspect the mouth to make sure there are no leftovers.
14. Help or provide the rest of the diet if no signs of difficulty are observed.
15. Stimulate intake by creating a climate of communication.
16. Keep or ask the patient to continue to be incorporated for 30 to 60 minutes
After ingestion to avoid gastro-esophageal reflux.
17. Observe and record the amount ingested.
18. Remove the tray and leave it in the right place.
19. Helping the patient after ingestion in handwashing and hygiene
oral.
20. Placing the patient in a comfortable and adequate position, with easy access to the doorbell
And personal objects.
21. Perform handwashing.
22. Record in Nursing records.

OBSERVATIONS

- To facilitate the ingestion of liquids may be added thickening substances.
